JIZERA MOUNTAINS

Jizera Mountains are situated on the north of the Czech Republic, between the Lužické Mountains and the Giant Mountains. A part of this area with the highest mountain Wysoka Kopa is located in Poland. The highest mountain of Jizera Mountains in the Czech Republic is Smrk (1124 m). The main part of the mountains is formed by granite, some areas are formed by basalt.

The nature of Jizera Mountains fascinates visitors with its coarse Scandinavian character and plenty of beautiful places with unique natural creations. There are many peat-bogs or areas, which are formed by spruce virgin forest.

Jizera Mountains and Ještěd ridge are important recreation areas of the Czech Republic. They offer great conditions for summer tourism. In winter they become a famous place for skiers, because of many kilometers of arranged tracks or ski tows in many ski-centers of Jizera Mountains.

BOHEMIAN PARADISE

Czech Paradise is one of the most remarkable places in the Czech Republic. The area is characterized by number of rock towns. The magnificent Prachovské skály sandstone rock town rises nearly on the door-step of the town of Jičín. Other sandstone formations are located near the town of Mnichovo Hradiště.

The main symbol of Czech Paradise is the basalt double-hump Trosky with the ruin of medieval castle, characteristic at a distance with its silhouette. Turnov has been the natural economical and cultural center of this area and nowadays it is called the heart of The Bohemian Paradise.

A number of castles and chateaux were built in the area around Hrubá Skála. The Maloskalsko Region boasts a number of smaller sandstone towns, bizarre rock formations and castle ruins rising above the valley of the Jizera River.

GIANT MOUNTAINS

Giant Mountains are the highest and most famous mountains in the Czech Republic. They are situated in north-east Bohemia on the border between Czech Republic and Poland. Czech part of Giant Mountains is more extensive and more terrain then Polish. On the border occurs the highest mountain Sněžka (1602 m). The whole area of Giant Mountains has been proclaimed of National Park, thanks to its natural treasure.

Thanks their natural beauty and snow conditions the Giant Mountains become one of the most popular ski-areas of the Czech Republic. There are many ski centers with number of ski tows and downhill courses, but also many kilometers of cross-country skiing lines. In summer there are ideal conditions for tourism and cycling. Tourists can use the well-prepared system of tourist ways and many chalets.

MÁCHA’S AREA

The region called Mácha’s area is situated around town Doksy. The area is closely connected to the best-known Czech romantic poet Karel Hynek Mácha, who set the action of his masterpiece "May" in this area. The most visited attraction of the region - Mácha´s Lake is now called after him.

Macha's Lake is a favourite recreational area with many possibilities of summer recreation. Its four beaches offer sport facilities - beach volleyball, a big water slide, bungee jumping and boating trips. The lake is situated in the middle of woods and that is why it is suitable for hiking and cycling. There are many pathways and cyclo-routes.

From the historical sights the best known is royal castle Bezděz. The hill Bezděz with the ruins of the castle dominates the area. Timbered village houses and farmsteads complete the typical picture of Mácha's Country.

Česká Lípa is one of the most important towns of the region. The region around is a romantic hilly landscape with lots of green, spectacular sandstone formations and many ponds, mainly around Holany.

LUSETIAN MOUNTAINS AND LIBEREC

The area of Lusetian Mountains is situated between towns Liberec and Česká Kamenice. In the south they border on the hills of Bohemian Highlands. Lusetian Mountains are not too high but they attract by its beautiful nature. The highest mountain is Luž (793 m), situated at the frontier line with Germany. Other important peaks are Jedlová (774 m), Klíč (760 m) or Hvozd (750 m). In the year 1976 Lusetian Mountains were proclaimed as the State Protected Area.

Town Liberec is situated in an attractive area surrounded by greenery of the Jizera Mountains and the Lužicke Mountains. The dominating feature of Liberec is the mountain Ještěd (1012 m) with a cableway and a unique hotel on the top that serves as a transmitter facility as well. The surroundings of Liberec offers a wide range of opportunities for summer and winter sport activities. There are downhill courses, ski lifts and ski jumps on the slopes of Ještěd, the Jizera Mountains offer ideal conditions for cross-country skiing and tourism.



FRÝDLANT REGION

The region of Frýdlant is situated on the northern frontier of Bohemia, on the state border of the Czech Republic with Poland and Germany. In the area there are several important road and pedestrian border crossings.

The tourists admire Frýdlant region because of the beauty of the landscape, interesting natural sights and many historical monuments. Among the most known sights is Frýdlant castle and the town of Frýdlant itself - it is connected with the name of Albrecht Waldstein.
